Fitting Station Request
As a public service to reduce the misuse of child safety seats and to improve the safety of children traveling in motor vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) along with the Tennessee Traffic Safety Resource Service maintains a central list of locations throughout the United States where child safety seats may be inspected.
This information is available to the public through NHTSA’s national website and the TNTrafficSafety.org website and can be accessed by anyone using the Internet. The national website is www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/cpsfitting. A current child passenger safety Technician or Instructor must conduct all child safety seat checks completed at these locations.
To partner with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, agencies must agree to maintain a public presence for the community at large, providing ongoing education services for child passenger safety and car seat use and installation guidance. A Fitting Station must be staffed by a minimum of one currently certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. To be eligible for additional resources for fitting station support, such as car seat orders and materials requests, CPSTs must submit seat check reports via the National Digital Check Form, www.carseatcheckform.org. Community education reporting can be submitted through the Fitting Station portal @ www.tntrafficsafety.org.
